The name of the Central African Republic is derived from the country's geographical location in the central region of Africa and its republican form of government. The Central African Republic is a member of the United Nations, the African Union, the Economic Community of Central African States, the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie and the Non-Aligned Movement.
